Bullsbrook Community Update – 29th May
Containers for Change is launching across WA on 1 October - WA is now just 18 weeks away from having a brand-new recycling program, which gives you the chance to earn cash and make real environmental change at the same time.
Containers for Change let you cash in eligible drink containers for 10c each at any authorised Refund Point across WA.
Whether you’re keen to earn a bit of extra cash, raise money for your local sports club or even donate to your favourite charity, Containers for Change provides a way. What you can do - Sign up for a Containers for Change Scheme ID today.
You can also use a Scheme ID to fundraise - Charities, community groups, clubs and organisations can use their Scheme ID to raise much-needed funds. Register online for a Containers for Change Scheme ID and share your Scheme ID with your supporters.

Have Your Say - The City of Swan’s Draft Volunteer Plan 2019-2024 – Volunteering is a key part of our community’s economic, social and cultural wellbeing. It promotes community connectedness, reduces isolation and increases social capital and community cohesion. The Volunteer Plan will guide the City’s approach to supporting, promoting and celebrating volunteering. Consultation is open from 18 May – 1 June 2020. New Community Directory – The City of Swan is launching a new Community Directory and is inviting your group to create a listing so the public can easily find your contact details. The myCommunity Portal is our first free online directory of community groups, services and events within and for the City. It will appear on the City of Swan website and will be available for everyone to view. It will also be linked on the City's COVID-19 support page. Chalk Art Competition – The Ellenbrook Sports Hub has announced that it is competition time! Create your own chalk challenge and upload a video of you and your family doing it. The videos with the most likes will be shortlisted to go in the running to be made permanent. Great Northern Highway Temporary Closure from Tuesday 2nd June - From 7am on Tuesday 2 June, Great Northern Highway will be closed north of Brand Highway, Muchea to build a large section of pavement. It will re-open at midnight on 21 June. Read more here

The Journey of Health and Wellbeing - This 10-minute animation charts the progress of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities from colonisation to today. It seeks to help us understand how events of the past play out in the present but offers a framework of hope and equity. The Journey of Health and Wellbeing video was developed by the Aboriginal Health Policy Directorate. It is based on the concept by Tim Muirhead and Danny Ford that has been used to enhance face-to-face Aboriginal cultural learning training in the WA health system for a number of years. 2020-21 Regional Events Scheme - Seventy-seven events have been awarded funding as part of the 2020-21 Regional Events Scheme, with seven of the events supported through the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the events and tourism industry, these events will be held between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Includes the Avon Descent and A Taste of Chittering - Download the successful recipient list.
$1.7M Boost for City of Swan in Pearce - The City of Swan he Federal Liberal Government’s $1.8 billion boost for road and community projects through local governments across Australia. The investment will support local jobs and businesses and boost local economies struggling under the effects of COVID-19. The package included the establishment of a new $500 million Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program and the bringing forward of $1.3 billion of the 2020-21 Financial Assistance Grant payment. Allocations under the Financial Assistance Grant and Local Road and Community Infrastructure programs can be found at https://investment.infrastructure.gov.au/lrci.
Drive-through COVID-19 testing now available in Midland - Patients displaying symptoms of COVID-19 can be tested for the virus without getting out of their car thanks to a newly opened drive-through COVID-19 swab collection clinic in the City of Swan. The City has worked with Western Diagnostic Pathology (WDP) to open the new clinic which is located at the Stafford Street Carpark in Midland. Swab collections are taken underneath a marquee in a section of the car park between 8am-12 noon, Mondays to Saturdays. Appointments are not required, and instead patients only need to bring a referral from their GP and their Medicare card.
The site also supports the McGowan Government's new DETECT Snapshot program which allows healthcare workers, WA Police staff, meat workers, supermarket and retail staff, and hospitality workers who are asymptomatic to undergo a swab test for COVID19 from Thursday May 28 to Wednesday June 10, 2020. The DETECT Snapshot testing blitz will provide a better understanding of any COVID-19 that may be in the community and has not been detected.
COVID-19: Easing the Restrictions – The WA state government has available a four-phase roadmap to carefully ease COVID-19 restrictions, including what this means for both community and business. Please click here to view all the details and phases, both current and planned.
Domestic violence support services – Help is Here - Domestic violence in our community is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to be free from harm and to live without fear of violence or abuse. All victims need compassionate and highly responsive support. The Help is Here campaign provides information on support services available to anyone affected by domestic and family violence, to help them access the support they need, when they need it. If you know anybody who is at risk of domestic or family violence, please encourage them to access the resources here.
Assistance for Providers and Services – Our ‘Child Care Subsidy Helpdesk’ can assist providers and services with information regarding the Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package – however they are unable to provide business and financial advice to providers and services. City of Swan Libraries Programs – The latest news for the libraries is that our library programs have moved online including via YouTube and Facebook. If you have missed our programs come and check us out - there are some very tasty choices. More details of the programs that are available can be found here. Community Sports Grants – The McGowan Government has announced that they will fast-track $12 million in funding applications for community sport and recreation projects to expedite the projects and support Western Australia's economy as part of the COVID-19 recovery. Applications for Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund's (CSRFF) Annual and Forward Planning grants of up to $2 million will now open on Monday 25 May 2020, and will close on Friday 11 September 2020.
The grants will allow local not-for-profit sport, recreation or community groups and local governments to develop basic, sustainable infrastructure to increase participation in sport and recreation, while supporting the economy and creating jobs. Examples of projects that will be considered include new playing surfaces, floodlighting, upgrades to change rooms and ablutions and improvements to clubrooms. Funding Boost to Support Australian Exporters and Tourism Businesses – The Export Marketing Development Grants (EMDG) program has gained a $49.8 million boost to help Australian exporters and tourism businesses fight COVID-19. Read more
The #LocalNightIn campaign will showcase the wide variety of restaurants, hotels, clubs and cafes on the list that are offering special takeaway, pick-up and delivery options to people in their local area. The list will then be used as part of a consumer-friendly platform for at-home diners to access and learn about the venues in their area that are still open for business.
