Land Conservation District Committees (LCDCs) are statutory committees appointed by the Commissioner of Soil and Land Conservation in Western Australia, to administer land conservation districts in accordance with an Order proclaimed by the Governor. Their main function is to promote sustainable land management and undertake projects.
The North Swan Land Conservation District Committee (Bullsbrook Landcare) was established in 1997 to tackle issues such as repairing and protecting bushland, parks and wetlands, tree planting and the monitoring of waterways within City of Swan’s northern suburbs. The group has an MOU and works in conjunction with the Chittering Landcare Centre.
Our Vision is to have an informed community who care for their environment and have the skills to enhance and sustainably manage soil, water, flora and fauna on a catchment management basis. We aim to ensure that future development will consider ecological values alongside economic and social factors in all areas of land use planning and management.

Bullsbrook Landcare - Friends of Groups.
Within Bullsbrook Landcare we have formed 2 Friends of groups. These groups are supported by the City of Swan who funds the revegetation activities.
Friends of the Bullsbrook Bridle Trail.
The Bullsbrook Bridle Trail runs from the junction of Smith/Taylor Roads to Meadowbrook Ramble, a distance of approximately 2.5kms. The trail runs either side of a winter creek and so a 5km loop walk is possible. The creek starts along Taylor Road, and flows into the Brockman River along Wilson Road. The Brockman River then flows into the Avon River, which then becomes the Swan River at the Upper Swan bridge on the Great Northern Highway.
The Bridle Trail is 'multi purpose' and is very popular with horse riders, dog walkers, walkers, joggers, and the occasional cyclist. We encourage 'mutual respect' for all the various users of the trail, and dog walkers, please pick up after your pets.
Over the years, a great deal of revegetation has taken place, especially along the Meadowbrook Ramble end of the trail. The Chittering Bird Group walks this section of the trail every October, recording the various species of birds that can be seen. Last year (2021) was our most successful bird walk with 43 different species of birds recorded.
For the past two years the revegetation activities have concentrated on the Taylor Road end of the trail, and we are planning another planting day in 2022, probably in July.
We have also installed 5 Black Cockatoo Nesting Tubes in the trees in the Jess Road area. These tubes were made by the students of Shenton College, and erected by Dean from Carnaby Crusaders.
Friends of the Bullsbrook Recycling Centre.
Directly to the north of the Recycling Centre, the City of Swan owns approximately 50acres of land. Until recently this land has been used for cattle grazing and has become quite degraded.
Bullsbrook Landcare identified this land as an opportunity to revegetate it, and rehabilitate it. With that in mind we formed the Friends of the Bullsbrook Recycling Centre.
Bullsbrook Landcare in collaboration with Okeland Communities.
Bullsbrook Landcare's 20th Anniversary - 21 October 2017
The Bullsbrook Landcare Group (NSLCDC) celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Bullsbrook Museum. After a guided walk through the Bullsbrook Biodiversity rehabilitation corridor everyone returned to the Museum to hear presentations by Mike Bamford, ecologist, David Cook, entomologist and Rosanna Hindmarsh from Chittering Landcare Centre, followed by a yummy lunch and birthday cake and a browse through the Museum. The museum was presented with some seedlings for the garden which visitors helped to plant. A great event - even the rain held off for us! Looking forward to the next 20 years.

Christmas 2015 Fire at the Bullsbrook Biodiversity Corridor (BBBC)
On the morning of Saturday 19 December 2015 a fire was deliberately lit in Defence Land on Gallagher Rd, Bullsbrook. Witnesses were able to provide the Arson Squad with information. This fire spread to the BBBC revegetation area and continues to burn in the peat. Local landcare groups have been rehabilitating this area which includes the Bulls Brook for many years. The workshop hosted Bullsbrook Landcare Group in June 2015, as recorded below, was held in the area where the fire went through.
A huge thank you to the volunteer and professional firefighters who attended and prevented the fire from spreading even further in the high winds. Thank you especially to those local residents and volunteer firees who are continuing to monitor and respond to the ongoing re-ignites. Without you the damage would have been worse. Chittering Landcare and Bullsbrook Landcare Group will record the impacts of the fire on the BBBC over time.
